The 21-year-old Csipes was part of the leading group throughout the race and dropped her closest rivals on the last lap to clock 22 minutes, 19.816 seconds, beating Lani Belcher of Britain and Maryna Paltaran of Belarus. In the men's race, Germany's Max Hoff won his second gold of the championships in a time of 19 minutes 51.2 seconds after passing Aleh Yurenia of Belarus on the last lap.
